After ten years of dreaming about this build, it's finally in the works. I've been raised on the imports but have always loved the low-end torque and sound of domestic V8s, especially from the Ford V8s. I also have had some experience drifting some of the new age Mustangs with the Coyote 5.0, and realized that although I can't afford a new age Mustang, I have to create something inexpensive that is just as fun. Here are a couple of videos with my experience in the latest Mustang 5.0s It also helps that I'm in charge of the Customs division at a Ford dealership, so it was about time I put together something that has Ford DNA. So here we go! I bought this 93 240sx Convertible back in August, it needed some work to get it on the road. Although it came with a SR20, I knew this motor was not going to stay, the plan for purchasing this car was to install a 5.0. This is it on the back of a tow truck, to it's new home. I wrapped that hideous looking hood with some black vinyl my buddy gave me. The car came with the number one modification I would install, a roll bar. The front wheel wells were also tubbed and the rear strut towers were extended so that it could be lowered even more. The SR and parts were sold off to pay for the V8 swap. I sourced out a motor and had it delivered. A 99 Explorer 5.0, which has the Cobra intake manifold and GT40P heads. ![]() Surprisingly a very inexpensive motor! I definitely needed more odds and ends (transmission, flywheel, etc). So I bought this 87 Mustang LX off the original owner. Now here's the kicker, it has 529,000kms on the ORIGINAL Motor and Transmission! The motor and tranny have never been opened up either. This car would fire up right away and ran pretty great with lots of power still. Got pretty much what I wanted from that Mustang Mustang throttle cable installed. Fits surprisingly well! Engine bay cleaning time. Plan to paint it before the engine goes in Smashy smashy! Hammered the transmission tunnel to make room for the T5 transmission. Need to add some paint once I know there's enough room. Painted the tub sections of the engine bay. Decided on white so that if there are any leaks or issues, I can see right away where it's coming from. I used the aftermarket aluminum rad that was already in the 240sx, but because the upper and lower rad hose inlets/outlets were on the opposite sides to how the V8 needed them, I took the rad to a shop and buddy there did an awesome job of relocating the inlet/outlets at an affordable price. Lots of Kijiji and GTA Mustang forum hunting to get everything I needed. Also, a lot of buying and selling parts to make sure I do this build on a budget. Here is a majority of used parts I picked up that are waiting to go in the car. Preparing and labeling the wiring to mate the 240sx harness to the Mustang harness. More to come. Now waiting on the swap parts that I had to purchase new to make everything work. _________________ 1993 240sx Convertible (Project Drifter) 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS (Project) 1993 Acura Integra (Road Racer) 2000 Subaru Impreza Outback (Daily Driver) 1988 Yamaha YSR50 Last edited by GoanRacing on Sat Feb 08, 2014 10:11 pm; edited 2 times in total jajdc1221 member Joined: 08 Feb 2012 Posts: 8 Location: Somewhere in Houston Posted: Sun Dec 02, 2012 5:09 pm Post subject: Flippin awesom Ima take notes on this one. In my opinion it's cheaper to work on a 302 dollar/hp wise. I almost went for a LS1 motor set. Harness and ecu everything. But I basically got a deal on a beat up explorer. 800 bucks lol the whole shebang. And I towed it to my house. And junked the shell for 400 bucks. So technically I paid 400 for a complete 302. I hit up craigslist for T5 for 180. And plus my bro has a 89 stang.
